Boone County Engineer Craig Parks represents indiana at the usdot, Minority Leader of the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee and to the White House’s Council on Environmental Quality

Boone County Engineer Craig Parks recently traveled to Washington DC to attend a NACE Legislative Conference. NACE only had 10 attend the meeting at the White House, and Craig was lucky enough to be one of those 10 because of his role on the Executive Committee. This is huge for Indiana County Highway Officials. During these meetings, topics were discussed that are outlined in the attached document. These are things that can help each and every one of us.

West Central District Meeting

The West Central District held a spring meeting on March 27 at Turkey Run State Park with 9 of 14 counties represented. There were 17 highway people, 1 commissioner and the sponsor of the event. They started promptly at 11:00 am and wrapped up at 2:30 pm. Many topics were discussed in an informal round table setting. Some of the topics were:
MVH Fund changes from the SBOA Directive
Engineer stipend legislation
Community Crossing Matching Grants
Who received money this year and how much
Projects being funded
Success and failures from past experiences
Summer conference details
Future district meetings
Everyone enjoyed the format of the meeting and agreed a fall meeting should take place in the same location in the fall. Items discussed for the fall meeting are inviting State Representatives and other elected officials. Also, one county will be asked to discuss various aspects of their county operations.

SOUTHWEST DISTRICT MEETING

On April 4, 2019 IACHES SW District held a district meeting at Stoll’s Lakeview Restaurant. (North of Loogootee)
As you can see, there were a number of good topics discussed along with great conversation about those topics. I would like to thank SJCA and Clark Deitz for sponsoring our meeting.
- One of our Associate members (3M) presented some their new innovative products and explained some of their other services that they could provide.
- Talked about the changes to the annual report and utilizing LTAP’s new Data Management System.
- Discussed all the legislation that is being discussed at the State House, along with discussing the need to create a plan to better educate our legislatures on the Superintendents Stipend and the actual history and benefit to the Road Scholar Course.
- The permitting of County Highway Department work by IDEM and USACE. It may not have been asked of us in the past, but they are starting to require this for a majority of County work.
- Informed everyone that was at the meeting, of the location and dates of this year’s Summer Conference. Also discussed some training presentations that the district would like to see.
- Discussed some strategies to increase membership in our district and creating a membership committee for the Association to assist with statewide membership.
- Talked about the successes and failures during this round of CCMG, and created some questions / suggestions that maybe the Association as a whole could bring before INDOT to better fit County needs and possibly City and Town needs.
